Quick & Easy Homemade Granola Bars

No bake healthy granola bars that are ready in no time! Saving you time and money!

Homemade Granola Bars

While my kids love granola bars, I don’t love the mile long list of terrible ingredients that usually are on every box you buy at the store. There are a few good options, but they are usually very expensive. Which is why I started to make my own from scratch. Believe me, it’s a lot easier than you think!

As a result, you can even customize your granola bars to your kids liking. I love this recipe because you can add many additional ingredients if you like or make them to your liking. You can make them into the rectangle shape of a traditional granola bar, or into a ball in which, many people call them energy balls. However, I prefer to make them into little granola squares. It makes the perfect size for little hands, and tiny tummies.

Thus, all you need for these healthy granola bars are some oats, peanut butter, honey, nuts and chocolate chips. If you are making your own you can definitely add dried fruit, various nuts or white chocolate chips. I’ve even added pretzels at times for a sweet and savory flavor.

Why Make Your Own Granola Bars?

Granola bars today that you buy in the store can be filled with all sorts of ingredients such as TBHQ, high fructose corn syrup, folic acid, seed oils, and many more ingredients that are hard to pronounce, making them even harder to digest.

Food companies tend to keep making these with cheaper ingredients, usually manmade ingredients that can mimic a natural ingredient. Consequently, this is why when you look at a nutrition label and see the list of ingredients, it has such a long list of ingredients. Most of the time you can make anything homemade from scratch and have fewer ingredients, and all ones you can pronounce.

Equipment Needed

Instructions

  • Step 1: Place the oats, and dry ingredients in a bowl
  • Step2: Next mix together peanut butter and honey (can heat up a bit to melt if peanut butter is too thick)
  • Step 3: Pour mixture over oats and dry ingredients. (If you are making into balls, roll 1-inch balls and place on a baking sheet and then freeze, skip step 4)
  • Step 4: Pour into a 9×9 dish with parchment paper
  • Step 5: Freeze for 1 hour in the 9×9 dish
  • Step 6: Finally, cut into bars into the shape you would like

*You can roll the ingredients into 1inch balls instead of placing in a 9×9 dish (like this one) if you prefer. You will still need to freeze for an hour.

Store in fridge or freezer for up to a week.
